A Dutch beekeeper has spoken of his shock after his 10 beehives have been burned down in a park within the central metropolis of Almere, with the lack of an estimated half 1,000,000 bees.
Harold Stringer stated every hive had a colony of 40-60,000 bees, and the thought that anybody may kill them was horrific.
“It actually hurts that my 10 hives have died,” he instructed native broadcaster Omroep Flevoland.
Police in Almere, which sits to the east of Amsterdam, have appealed for witnesses after the arson assault on Tuesday night within the metropolis’s scenic Beatrixpark. They posted photos of the fireplace on social media.
The Dutch authorities says greater than half of the nation’s 360 species of bee are prone to extinction, because the inhabitants of bees declines world wide.
Mr Stringer stated police had instructed him an accelerant had been used to burn the hives, which have been sitting on pallets in a wooded a part of the park.
Barely any of the bees survived and he stated that he had little religion the arsonist could be caught.
Fellow beekeeper Heleen Nieman instructed Dutch radio that she had three bee colonies and wished to present him certainly one of them.
For Mr Stringer, who sorted the bees for about 9 years, the fireplace means beginning a brand new colony within the park from scratch.
However he insists he won’t quit.
