Shreyas Iyer, known for his aggressive style of play, played a different innings in the 5th T20I against Australia, as the wicket was sluggish
One always expects Shreyas Iyer to take the game on, irrespective of the circumstances. However, that was not the case during the India Cricket Team‘s fifth and final T20I against Australia in Bengaluru. Coming in at 33 for 2, Shreyas assessed the wicket and played according to the situation. The right-hand batter mixed caution with aggression and played a composed innings of 53. During the post-match presentation, Shreyas opined that it was not an easy wicket to bat.
‘When I saw three wickets falling down, I started to calculate what would be the best score on this wicket, and it was not an easy wicket to bat on. Whenever we find ourselves in such a situation it is important to assess the conditions and bat accordingly. 160 was the right total, it’s a commendable total, especially after losing 4 wickets,” Shreyas Iyer said at the post-match conference.
Shreyas’s match-winning knock of 53 enabled India to win by six runs in the final T20I and cap off a memorable 4-2 T20 series win. It was not a typical Bengalu wicket, as it was kind of sluggish. India curbed their aggressive instinct and managed to post a challenging score of 160.
Shreyas Iyer & Arshdeep Singh power India to a nail-biting win
If Shreyas was the star with bat in hand, Arshdeep Singh shone brightly with ball in hand. The left-arm pacer defended 10 runs in the last over and gave away just four runs to help India win by six runs. Shreyas lauded the temperament of the young pacer and lavished huge praise on him for holding his nerve
“Elated to see everyone chipping in and the way these guys stood up from game one, especially in the batting department, is mesmerizing to see. I could see the calmness in him (Arshdeep) when he was bowling the last over,” Shreyas added.
After the T20 series against Australia, India will next tour South Africa for an all-format series starting from December 10.
