Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito will start the season on the injured listing with a hamstring damage, supervisor Alex Cora informed reporters Thursday.

The announcement comes two days after Cora stated right-hander Brayan Bello will not be prepared for the beginning of the season.
Bello, the Opening Day starter final season, has been coping with soreness in his shoulder this spring. The Purple Sox have been taking a cautious strategy with him.
With Giolito sidelined, Boston’s beginning rotation depth shall be examined early within the season with Kutter Crawford (knee) additionally unavailable.
“We will be examined immediately,” Cora informed reporters Thursday.
The 30-year-old Giolito signed a $38.5 million. two-year contract with Boston earlier than final season, however did not pitch all 12 months after a partial tear in his proper ulnar collateral ligament.
