Hundreds turned out to see the New Yr’s Eve fireworks in Sydney

Sydney has welcomed the New Yr with a message of peace following the Bondi Seaside mass capturing, as big crowds gathered to observe town’s annual fireworks show.

The phrases peace and unity have been projected onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as 1000’s of closely armed cops patrolled the streets – a uncommon and stark sight in Australia – as a part of heightened safety measures.

New South Wales (NSW) Police mentioned greater than 2,500 officers have been on obligation throughout town, and a few officers have been authorised to hold high-grade weapons.

The assault on 14 December focused Australia’s Jewish group and killed 15 individuals at a Hanukkah competition.

Crowds turned on their cell phone flashlights as they noticed the minute’s silence

The Sydney Harbour Bridge was lit up by a white mild to symbolise peace, and a Jewish menorah was projected on to the pylons of the bridge to point out solidarity with the Jewish group.

Official New Yr’s Eve events have been paused at 23:00 native time (12:00 GMT) for a minute’s silence to commemorate the victims of the assault.

Photos from Sydney Harbour – the place 1000’s collect yearly to observe the well-known fireworks show – confirmed officers patrolling the crowds with longarm weapons.
