The primary vote of the conclave – the secretive course of to decide on a brand new pope – has failed to achieve a call.
After a prolonged wait, black smoke emerged from the Sistine Chapel’s chimney at round 9pm native time – which means the 133 cardinals inside haven’t been ready to decide on a brand new pontiff.
Crowds gathered of their tens of 1000’s in St Peter’s Sq. for the primary vote of conclave – the outcomes of which took greater than two hours to announce.
Cardinals will return on Thursday morning to a closed-door Sistine Chapel for extra rounds of voting.
