A 14-year-old boy has died and 4 individuals have been wounded in a knife assault in Austria.
It occurred at round 16:00 native time (15:00 GMT) close to the primary sq. of Villach, a southern city near the border with Italy and Slovenia.
The suspect is a 23-year-old Syrian asylum seeker and has been detained, AFP information company reported citing a police official.
“A person randomly attacked passers-by with a knife,” police spokesman Rainer Dionisio instructed AFP.
A supply employee who drove his car on the attacker helped stop extra accidents, the police spokesman instructed ORF, Austria’s nationwide broadcaster.
Police haven’t dominated out a second attacker being concerned, ORF added.
Austrian media reported the suspect, whose id has not been confirmed by police, could have had a sound residence allow.
The broadcaster stated two of the 4 individuals injured have been in a critical situation.
Any motive or hyperlink between the knifeman and 5 victims will not be but recognized, although ORF reported extremism police had been drafted in to analyze.
Governor Peter Kaiser of Carinthia – the area the place Villach is situated – described the assault as an “unimaginable atrocity”.
