Eight passengers have been injured on a Ryanair flight that diverted to an airport in southern Germany after experiencing “extreme turbulence” on account of unhealthy climate, police have stated.
Amongst these injured on Wednesday evening have been a two-year-old who suffered bruising and a lady who incurred a head damage, based on Bavarian police.
Three individuals have been taken to an area hospital for therapy, whereas others have been handled on web site, they stated.
Ryanair apologised to affected passengers. It stated the captain of the flight – initially deliberate to go from Berlin to Milan – referred to as forward for medical help and the airplane “landed usually” at Memmingen Airport, to the west of Munich.
Native police stated the climate circumstances meant it had not been attainable to land at Munich Airport, so the airplane was diverted to Memmingen, the place it landed “safely and with out additional incident” at 20:44 native time (18:44 GMT).
An onward flight was not permitted by the Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority on Wednesday night, they stated.
Ryanair stated it organised “different transport” to Milan that evening, in addition to a alternative flight on Thursday morning.
“We sincerely apologise to passengers affected by this diversion,” it stated.
There have been 179 passengers and 6 crew members on board, based on police.
The ages of these injured vary from two to 59, and as a precaution all passengers have been checked for accidents, they stated.
