Iran has launched a Marshall Islands-flagged gas product tanker that its forces seized within the Strait of Hormuz 5 days in the past, in keeping with the vessel’s supervisor.
Cyprus-based Columbia Shipmanagement mentioned all 21 crew members of Talara had been “protected and in good spirits”, and that the vessel was “free to renew regular operations”.
There was no fast affirmation from Iranian authorities.
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) mentioned on Saturday that it had intercepted Talara after it was discovered to be “in violation of the legislation by carrying unauthorised cargo”.
Nevertheless, Columbia Shipmanagement mentioned “no allegations had been made in opposition to the vessel, her crew and the vessel’s managers and house owners” earlier than its launch on Wednesday morning.
Talara had been crusing to Singapore from the United Arab Emirates with a cargo of high-sulphur gasoil on Friday when it was seized round 20 nautical miles (37km) off the Emirati port of Khor Fakkan and diverted to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.
Lately, the IRGC has periodically seized tankers and cargo vessels within the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf, by which about 20% of worldwide oil and fuel shipments go.
Nevertheless, this was the primary seizure since Iran’s 12-day conflict with Israel in June.
