Russia has vetoed a United Nations Safety Council decision calling for a direct ceasefire in Sudan, because the nation continues to grapple with a lethal warfare that has displaced millions of people and spurred a humanitarian disaster.

The decision, authored by the UK and Sierra Leone, had referred to as on all fighters in Sudan to “instantly stop hostilities” and provoke a dialogue on a “nationwide ceasefire”.
